Caramel Apple Butter "Grilled Cheese" Sandwiches
I made these (and gobbled them down) like a month ago but have hesitated to post them because I overthink everything and felt like maybe they weren’t “hard” enough or “from scratch” enough for a food blog.
I’m still learning as I go to trust myself and my intuition. And honestly, I’m 35 years old and this is MY blog. It’s about time I said fuck it and just did what I want, amiright?
Having said all of that - these are DELICIOUS. I mean, legit mouth watering. There’s buttery croissants, sweet and spicy (not hot spicy) caramel apple butter, cream cheese, and simple caramel sauce. Honestly, what’s not to love?
I made these dessert grilled cheese in my cast iron skillet and didn’t even need to butter the outside of the croissant like you do in a traditional grilled cheese. I just pressed down at a medium pressure with a spatula and got an amazing golden brown crust on the outside of the croissant.
The cream cheese, apple butter, and caramel sauce all melted together in the heat of the pan to form sweet, tangy, oozy deliciousness in the center of this sandwich. You can eat sandwiches for dessert, right? Well, in the spirit of not giving a shit, here’s the recipe and you should give it a try RIGHT NOW.
Now, the caramel apple butter I used in this recipe I made from scratch. Have you ever made apple butter? It’s basically the easiest condiment ever effort-wise, it just takes a while time-wise. It’s totally necessary to this recipe, though, so if you haven’t already, go make a batch of the caramel apple butter and then come back and use it in this recipe.
Time to get busy making these - they only take about 3 minutes each so you can make like 10 and call it good.
